Gustaf Westman Objects

Gustaf Westman is an up-and-coming furniture designer based in Stockholm. He blew up on Instagram with the Curvy mirror which has been posted countless times by influencers. Their aesthetics is very bold and playful, and the furniture plays within the fields of more classic Scandinavian design, fashion, and pop culture.

The problem

At the time the customer could only send order inquiries and not purchase directly at the homepage whether it was larger or smaller items. This resulted in lots of work for GWO, a larger step for the customer to take in order to purchase, and a longer waiting time for them to get their item. There was also no way of sorting the furniture which lead to the customer not having a clear view of the product range.

The process

I started by doing a review of their current site and looking into which things to improve and prioritizing these given the time estimate. After this, I and the GWO team started out with a meeting looking at references and we agreed upon certain steps to take in order to improve the user experience. We had continuous meetings and also days we worked together where we could sit side by side and come up with solutions and do quick mock-ups.

We decided to design a very minimalist website for two reasons. One is that the furniture stands out more. Another aspect is that GWO never has to be stuck in a specific aesthetic or think about their furniture not matching the website. This way they can explore any aesthetic without having to redesign it.

Buy now function, clear information, and color choice were added to make the process of buying easier for the user.

By adding a filter function we made it possible for the user to see specific products on the overview page.

By adding a dynamic search function we made it easier for the user to find a specific product.
